Jessica Robbins

Jessica Robbins new work stems from visual elements that make patterns. These repeated patterns are comprised of a main element with companion elements that cohabitate the same space, forming a tightly composed unit that creates one unified response.

Opposing compositions make a convergence that compare graphical structures to painterly formlessness. Invasive colors are humbled by the excitement of the surrounding interference. The stylized images are worked over and reworked to carry over into other paintings, from piece to piece, expanding into a cohesive body of work.

Robbins received her BFA in painting from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1999. Since then she has been exhibiting in Los Angeles and nationwide group shows as well as a 2-person show with Gallery Revisited in 2004 and a 3-person show in 2005. She studied textile design at FIDM 2004/05 to enhance her process through exposure to alternate teaching ideology. Her work can be found in several private collections as well as an impressive commission history. We are pleased to be hosting Jessica Robbins again with this new direction of work.

--------------

Elana Kundell

Elana Kundell creates imaginary environments in the abstract that are based on emotional rather than physical spaces. Based on memory – where experience is recycled and distorted – the paintings occupy an ambiguous zone between what is seen and what is felt. The process at its best reveals clues about the deep, usually hidden nature of meaning/feeling/being in the world, bringing to light possibilities for transformation.

Working in oil, the surfaces are developed intuitively using knives, brushes, fingers, and cloth to form dense, intersecting layers.

Kundell received her BFA in painting for the University of Santa Cruz in 2000 and studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna, Italy. She has been exhibiting extensively in California since then & in Korea. She has received several grants and participated in residence programs. Her work can be found in several private collections. We are pleased to be presenting Elana Kundell and her newest body of work.
