Leora Lutz Go-About: Riverside
I went to a house party in Riverside last weekend. I think I was the oldest person there, except for some guy who appeared to be a "someone" from the neighborhood.
There was some pretty incredible experimental music going on.
Sorry I can't remember the names of the bands. Here are some highlights:
In the dining room - a pal's new band played about 4 short songs:

In the bedroom:
I am pretty sure I might have seen this woman preform in LA a long time ago...The best thing I can do to describe the music and vocals is a cross between Yoko Ono, Patti Smith and Janis Joplin. Maybe meets Cocteau Twins in there somewhere for inaudible lyrics, but all in all quite complex, genius and not at all irritating.
Her drumming skills are commendable, really impressive.

Accompanied by cello:

And this - The Array Ambira! an elaborate thumb piano:

---
Riverside, lovingly called Rivercide by many inside and visiting folks, is the home of some interesting history that warrants this name.
On a lighter note, the art scene is reeeaaaallllly small, but perhaps a new Renaissance is brewing. Tyler Stallings is a curator of the Sweeney Art Gallery (UC Riverside's gallery located in Downtown).
Peter Frank, pictured here writing a live review of David E. Stone's show,

a fan of Gallery Revisited has been the curator of the Riverside Art Museum permanent collection for quite some time.
Friday, January 18th -- on the roof of the museum:
Mike Watt live concert and LIVE DRAWING BY
RAYMOND PETTIBON
$6
I'll be there.
Tickets are available at the door - which opens at 7pm.
(2 hour commute from LA at this time, so plan accordingly)
See you around,
Leora
