Frank Pictures and Sam Freeman Sunday Night Openings

I have to admit, in my self-proclaimed insular holed-up state of studio production coupled with the inundation of invites, blurbs, emails and my calendar of intended events to attend scribbled all over an old fashioned monthly planner -- I thought I should check it out as many Sunday openings as I could since I would be in the LA area anyway. (Picking up paintings from the group show I was in in SM).

As you know, jaunts to the other side of the county and beyond now require mass-planning to maximize the tank of gasoline.

So, Kellesimone Waits (who is Tom Waits daughter) is having her solo show at Frank Pictures Gallery - where I missed the chance to photograph Tom Waits, Johnny Depp, Rosanna Arquette and Harry Dean Stanton.

So THAT'S who comes out to an opening at Bergamot on Sundays!!

Sam Freeman gallery is not usually open on Sundays, but he decided to be open to partake in the spill-over from Frank Pictures and get some work done.

To my surprise, Christopher Russell was having a solo show at Samuel Freeman. (CR, you need to get better at sending out emails! I know you are in Ohio now, but we are still here in LA and love your work!!)

It turns out that Sam went to college with Christopher Russell. Sam was getting his MA while CR was getting his MFA. In the mean time, Tiffany Trenda was a TA for one of Sam's classes. (I think I got that right).
She is currently showing at Frank Pictures too along with Miss Waits, so the night was an interesting serendipitous one for Sam.

Before I was in Santa Monica I went by Project 210 in Pasadena. They have always hosted their openings on Sunday afternoons and so does Offramp Gallery, also in Pasadena.

210 is hosting a group participatory exhibition curated by D. Jean Hester. My favorite was the letter K - portraits of kitchens from the MLS. You will have to go see it to know what I mean.

Obviously, my scribbled calendar is not working too well for me, because I forgot to look at it before we left the house and I forgot to go to the Offramp show.

Coincidentally and timely:
Artillery Magazine has an article about exhibitions at homes instead of galleries. They mention Offramp -- but 210 is also a home. It's in a tiny industrial loft space on the East side of town, home to Chuck Feesago - artist and curator.

So:

Will I ever learn to bring my camera with me Every time I go somewhere?
Will I stop helping my boyfriend get dressed for "art opening night" so that I won't forget to look at my calendar?
Will I segue into a Palm whose alarm will go off when I am supposed to be somewhere or call someone?
Are these really important?

Probably not -- but the stories are.
Hence writing, no pictures and no apologies!!
