Exhibits at Gallery Revisited 2006

Gallery Revisited wants to thank all of our artists, pals and media for making the gallery what it is today. The gallery focused on 3 curation concepts; "Consumerism and Product", "Small is Large" and "Lyrics and Dialogue". What an amazing year it has been and so strangely over so fast.

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, exciting, funny, motivating, respectful, prosperous and wonderful new year,
Leora Lutz

Thank You 2006:

Inaugural 3 - group show kicking off our 3rd location...it rained that night but it was still packed with artists and their pals. Thanks Susan and Sumi.

YaYa Chou and Katy Bowen - 2 person show. Mixed media works; sculpture, paintings. An amazing pairing and one of the years most talked about show, featuring the Gummi Bear Chandalier. Both artists brought strong concepts pertaining to crafts in current contemporary art as well as the historical context. Thanks Bill Lasarow of Artscene Magazine, Flavorpill and LA City Beat.

Sam Gezari and danielle b. ashton, 2 person show; photography, mixed media. An understated show of numerous small works by each artist, questioning the way we look at our surroundings in the context of small things, thoughts or images as they comprise a larger whole. Thank you Howard Fox of LACMA, who visited danielle's studio this year.

ARTPAGE - group show curated by Paige Wery with coinciding zine. A dynamic, eclectic show featuring underground, outsider, cutting edge and innovative artists from Los Angeles and the Bay Area. The zine ARTpage was launched in a limited edition of 100 numbered editions, including 4 collectors editions with all artists signatures and secret extra bits. Thanks Paige.

Group Show in support of Los Angeles Art Association.
All of the work in the show was selected through a submission process. Artists who are members of the organization submitted imagery and slides based on a prospectus that I wrote about the concept of Consumerism and Product. I narrowed down about 50 submissions to the chosen 11 artists. Work ranged from paintings to photo to mixed media and had a very nice flow overall.
Los Angeles Art Association is an 80 year old non-profit organization that is comprised of juried artist members. They host shows, lectures, panel discussions and more. Thanks Sinead and Peter.

David E. Stone and Neil Wax, 2 person show, mixed media. This compelling show merged the work of one 20+ art veteran with one venerable outsider. Filled with cynicism with humor and simplicity with complexity, this show prompted maintained compelling conversation from everyone who visited. Thanks to Peter Frank for LA Weekly and Shana Dambrot of Flavorpill.

Pete Goldlust and Julie Hughes, 2 person show, mixed media. One of the most industrious and intriguing shows of the year, visitors were floored by the installation that surrounded them. Thanks to Lee Joseph Publicity, Artillery Magazine and LA Alternative Press.

THAT SHOW! Group show; art, toys, artist made goods. Thanks Senor Amor and Jonona Lambert of Retropia.
And a final thanks to me for stickin' to it.

cheers!!

Herbert Palmer has passed away

Herbert Palmer has passed away....one of the blue chip greats is gone.

I met him at the Getty early last year and he was the sweetest man. His wife was so cute when I told her I had a gallery.
"So does my husband - it's such a noble thing."
"Oh, why thank you! Who is your husband?"
"Here he is," she gestured.
"Hello, I'm Herbert Palmer. Nice to meet you...." and so it went.

Spring Calendar 2007

Gallery Revisited is pleased to announce our 2007 program.

2 person show: Jessica Robbins and Elana Kundell
NEW PAINTINGS
February 3 - March 17. 2007

Jessica Robbins
"Covering Up the Divide" Mixed media paintings on panel.

Elana Kundell. "Dissolution". Oil on panel.

Jessica Robbins

Jessica Robbins new work stems from visual elements that make patterns. These repeated patterns are comprised of a main element with companion elements that cohabitate the same space, forming a tightly composed unit that creates one unified response.

Opposing compositions make a convergence that compare graphical structures to painterly formlessness. Invasive colors are humbled by the excitement of the surrounding interference. The stylized images are worked over and reworked to carry over into other paintings, from piece to piece, expanding into a cohesive body of work.

Robbins received her BFA in painting from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1999. Since then she has been exhibiting in Los Angeles and nationwide group shows as well as a 2-person show with Gallery Revisited in 2004 and a 3-person show in 2005. She studied textile design at FIDM 2004/05 to enhance her process through exposure to alternate teaching ideology. Her work can be found in several private collections as well as an impressive commission history. We are pleased to be hosting Jessica Robbins again with this new direction of work.

--------------

Elana Kundell

Elana Kundell creates imaginary environments in the abstract that are based on emotional rather than physical spaces. Based on memory – where experience is recycled and distorted – the paintings occupy an ambiguous zone between what is seen and what is felt. The process at its best reveals clues about the deep, usually hidden nature of meaning/feeling/being in the world, bringing to light possibilities for transformation.

Working in oil, the surfaces are developed intuitively using knives, brushes, fingers, and cloth to form dense, intersecting layers.

Kundell received her BFA in painting for the University of Santa Cruz in 2000 and studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna, Italy. She has been exhibiting extensively in California since then & in Korea. She has received several grants and participated in residence programs. Her work can be found in several private collections. We are pleased to be presenting Elana Kundell and her newest body of work.
