Gallery Revisited owner is also a painter

hi,
In addition to representing other artists at Gallery Revisited I am also a painter.

This weekend i will be relaunching the mostly famous City Silhouette paintings at caboom.

Caboom is a trade show for the design and architecture industry. I chose to participate because I feel that my work is conducive to the design world and audiences because of the concept...

City Silhouettes are actual painting based on modern ideas for real people.
These little gems are all about choice and accessibility. A formula evolved that made it fun for people to enjoy and acquire paintings not only as something that they can "live with" forever, but a piece that also has meaning.

Powerpole imagery is seen as an urban icon in many facets of art, fashion and design - especially in Los Angeles. But for me, the dim moments in the early evenings resonated with the acidic skies vs. the black lines and objects in the foreground.

People have told me that they capture a particular tone and a mood - bittersweet and nostalgic. They are all one of a kind, hand-painted by me, using zero stencils so you always get a unique landscape. In fact, it may be impossible for me to repeat a silhouette, as the options are as varied as the dusk from which they are inspired.

Because caboom is not an art exhibit, it costs $ to get inside.
Print out the postcard here to save on the entry.

I hope to see you!!

The Secret Lives of Dolls

Opening this Saturday at Gallery Revisited, March 24th :::7pm to 10pm:::
Artist Sisters; CJ Metzger and Miss Mindy.

The gallery is transformed into multi-dimensional installation views using the walls and foreground to create playful-appearing vignettes. At first glance it will be breathtakingly bittersweet and full of serene whimsy. Closer inspection will reveal the subtle nuances of the work and the intimate details of stories being told.

CJ Metzger and Miss Mindy’s work falls into the recently coined genre, “Pop Surrealism”. Although they embrace this new label they do prefer to identify with the history of art making.

Their inspiration stems from Craft and Folk Art as evident in the materials that they use, and the inherent themes that surround domesticity, every day occurrences and simple global feelings. They circle around the fringe of their hottest peers, comfortable in their individual fortitude to create work void of pretence and focusing on matters of individual expression.

Miss Mindy has an affinity for past times, and loves to explore mood, expressions and bizarre humor. Her work consists mainly of woodcut paintings, dioramas and shadow boxes, in addition to fluid ink drawings and sketches. Her method evokes a vintage and folk art feel using rough brush strokes and several mediums. Mindy attended several art and animation trade schools while interning for artists and designers and fully enjoys her rebellious ability to succeed without the confines of academic dogma – from illustration to product development to exhibitions. Her work is in numerous private collections nationwide and abroad.

CJ Metzger creates paintings and mixed media pieces using acrylics and oils and collage that blend surreal and whimsical imagery. Her work transcends basic illustration through their narration coupled by compelling intent. She received a BA in Art from Cal State Los Angeles and an MA in Public Art Administration from USC. Metzger revels in the diversity of her career path which has taken her from product design and branding to independent business woman. Her work can be found in numerous private national and international collections.

This show will be up until May 4th.
Do consider a look-see.

mystery blog says nice things

Yesterday I was doing online research for the gallery, and stumbled upon this ultra nice blurb!! I can't find a profile on this person to thank them, so in case they are doing on line research on us -- THANK YOU!!

here is the nice stuff the person said: (with a coupla edits by me)

Down to Earth Silverlake Gallery

Once located on Bamboo Way [Lane] in Chinatown, Gallery Revisited recently made the move to funky Silver Lake. Located in a retail space, the gallery curates innovative shows featuring mainly local emerging artists.
Unlike the cold spaces of more chichi art spaces located in areas like Beverly Hills, this gallery welcomes not only the monied arti elite but a more laidback, younger crowd looking to break into art collecting. Most of the pieces run in the hundreds rather than thousands of dollars and there's also a back room where small original paintings, signed prints, and artist books are available for purchase and are priced between $40-$200.
Gallery Revisited is actually owned by an artist, Leora Lutz, who is known for her acrylic block paintings of the LA landscape. Go experience art in this unpretentious space and purchase a piece to support one of your local artists.

• Pros: Cozy atmosphere, Friendly owner, Great exhibits
• Cons: Only open a few days out of the week, closed between exhibits
[open wednesday - sunday 12 - 6...not closed between exhibits, re install during the days we are normally closed - that's a 72 hour turnaround folks!]
• Overall user rating: Highly Recommended

again, thank you so much mystery blogger. we love you!!

Archival Gummi Bear Update

Perhaps some of you may remember the famous Gummi Bear Chandalier by YaYa Chou shown at Gallery Revisited...

I had it on display here at this gallery location when I inaugurated the space February
2006, then it stayed on for the 2 person show she had with Katy Bowen. (March 2006)
Since that time, the chandelier has traveled to be a part of group shows, and has been in Sculpture Magazine, and more recently several blogs:
Makezine
Candy Addict
Boing Boing

Ya Ya has her own blog too....where she explains the archival and lasting quality of the Gummi Bears. And so did I back in the day.
A recent new development has been revealed in the life of gummi longevity.
They do not survive chemical spraying.
I repeat: Do not spray or coat the Gummi with lacquer or anything.
Notice in the attached picture that these Gummis are cloudy and white looking, flaky and unappetizing - colors dull, surface ugly.

These Gummis are the same age as Gummi Chandelier.
The experiment of spraying these Gummis came about to satisfy the needs of worried Gummi Art Viewers here at the gallery. People really wanted to squeeze the Gummis...touch the art.

Being that this is a No-No, Miss Ya Ya brought in these remnant Gummis on a wire that I could hand the people to squish. They were often surprised to feel that the Gummis had merely hardened. In addition, the remnants had been sprayed in order to satisfy the masses worry about the vermine** nibbling on it.

One year later, we see that the remnant Gummis did not survive. But the Chandelier did/has.
A recent report has noted that the green gummi is not as vibrant as it used to be, but the whole thing is still pretty nonetheless.
Now that you know no one will eat it, won't you consider supporting the arts with a new acquisition for your collection? A Gummi Bear Chandalier...or perhaps a rug??

Italian Blog Interviews our artists

Michael Hsiung has another interview! This time in an Italian Blog written by Claudio Parentela.
There is however, a little boo-boo. Michael's show is in June 2007, not June 2008. I hope he is not
getting too ahead of himself, although I would love to keep showing him!

Now, twice in two weeks I got email links from the artists about these interviews, and I finally emailed Claudio, because out of pure coincidence, he is interviewing a lot of artists who I show here.

Claudio has another blog - the same one that interviewed David Trulli and Lisa Money Penny (we have work by both of them in our Salon) a little while ago.

Most recently he posted an interview by another Gallery Revisited artist, Ya Ya Chou. Ya Ya says, "I am a small dot on the planet." Read more.

CJ Metzger and Miss Mindy Show Delightables.

I just did a studio visit with CJ Metzger and Miss Mindy -- WOW!!!

This is going to be a great show...and just in line with the influx
of Women Artists shows. A very exciting time. Go Girls!!

Here is an excerpt from the Press Release:
The work evolves around the notion of women, their friends and relationships in fantastical places - places close to home and those found in reality as well as in our thoughts. Not to be confused with a feminist ideology, this show relishes the important roles that are inherently feminine while at the same time embracing youth and acceptance.
“Exploring the sadness over the loss of a bird, the feeling of manipulation, being trapped by expectations, or simply having butterflies in your belly -- these emotions, love, fear, angst, and humor are vividly present in our work in a whimsical, bittersweet, and hauntingly delicate way.” CJ Metzger

Their show is March 24 - May 5, 2007.
Please email me to let me know if you would like to be on the Preview List to add something new to your collection.

Have a great week,
Leora

Michael Hsiung is interviewed

Michael Hsiung has an interview on OurArtSite.

I just spent some time with Michael last night. We are brainstorming some exciting ideas for his show; June 23 - July 28.

It's a multi-faceted show; famous Michael Hsiung drawings with related installation.
In addition, the launch of an artist book with his friend, Kathleen Brzezinski - Kathleen is writing, while Michael does drawings to coincide...together we shall see tales unravel of a most curious and humorous kind.

This is a 2 person show in the Main Gallery with Cole Gerst of option-g fame. Cole is working on all new silkscreens in limited editions of 50 or 100.

Together the show seems to be evolving around some common imagery - animals, man vs. technology, man vs. nature....we shall see as time goes by, how the creative juices will flow.
