Boston Globe
Boston Magazine Artists Superheroes Project (PIXNIT as BatGirl)

Pixnit was in Europe for most of the Spring and Summer, pollinating building exteriors and public places and things with ornamental "Spores".

Using a combination of large hand-cut stencils and stickers, PIXNIT made marks in Amsterdam, London, Paris and Basel. Upon returning to Boston, a feverish production ensued to create new work for this solo show.

Street art in all shapes and forms and by many different artists is an integral part of the art scene here in Los Angeles.
We are super pleased about hosting this emerging street artist here and promoting this new, fresh approach to an already vital and important part of the art landscape.
(No pun intended!!)

Here are a few examples of how this genre is heavy hitting the scene. It only further validates the perfect timing of this show and the exciting energy surrounding the genre.

Berry McGee at Roberts and Tilton
Buffmonster at Corey Helford
Shepard Fairey at Merry Karnowsky
(sorry, the last 2 galleries do not have installation images of the shows on their sites...~sigh~)

Non-Brow Solo Exhibition :: the work of Paige Wery.

Gallery Revisited is pleased to present the premiere gallery solo exhibition of work
by Paige Wery. www.galleryrevisited.com

Opening Reception: September 15th. 6pm to 10pm sharp. free. Los Angeles.
Refreshments will be served. Conversation and basic merriment will ensue.

Wery is a true modern visionary;
A contemporary self-taught artist, anti-academic advocate of artistic methods,
believer of subconscious concepts and purveyor of non-brow.
Her work stands alone in a sea of sameness.
It is over the top yet surprisingly delicate, raw, humorous,
and devoid of boredom.

Here are a couple of images to tempt you - as we all know, the pictures simply to not
do it justice.
Friendly Takeover (detail of sculpture installation)

This Is Not My Art Shrine

Rosey (detail of small portion of 72" wall piece)

Thank you for your time, Leora

another good reason to buy or rent an overpriced artist LOFT in Downtown Los Angeles

Julie Rasmussen sent out this email:
[gallery revisited comments]

I live in the Arts District of Downtown LA and am CURSED with the occasional stinky smell from the rendering* plant over in Vernon...
If you have ever smelled a NASTY stink in the air in Downtown and/or the surrounding area, chances are it came from the plant. If you haven’t smelled anything, consider yourself lucky but know you probably will at some point.
[Wow. That is a huuuge area we are talking about. But the smell is just from that place? Not from other things like dumpsters, downwind China Town (which is continually rank), street residents that defecate and urinate in corners and alleys and sidewalks, or basic street filth that is brewing and fermenting in the new summer sun? Not that? Because that is all over downtown too.]

The
Stop The Smell project hopes to “encourage” the rendering plant to install a clean air filtration system of sorts to put an end to this horrific odor.
[does that include pretty piped in scents like at Disneyland?]

We can only encourage them to change their ways if we approach them as a strong, persuasive force. With that, we have created a petition for those who support the idea of clean smelling air so that all our voices can speak as one.

For those of you that live, work or play in Downtown this is something you should be educated on. For those of you that do not live in the area, you should still learn about this matter as the air over here can very easily blow your way. Pretty much, everyone everywhere should learn about what is going on and sign the petition to help put an end to it!

You can learn more and sign the petition to put an end to the stench at:

The more signatures we have, the better our chances of stopping the smell.

Please spread the word on this in everyway you can – forward the email on, blog it, post it on myspace, talk about it in chat rooms, do whatever you can to get the word out!

STOP THE SMELL!

-julie rasmussen

*If you don’t know what rendering is, learn about it here:

[Rendering is not a pretty thing at all. The more I learn about it and other meat packing practices the more I want to be vegetarian. But I digress.
The point here is that Downtown and the Arts District is changing so rapidly from what is was 20 years ago. Both good and bad. I just hate the prices of everything down there, and hearing about artists losing their lofts to renovators turning them into condos. If the local art market was keeping up with the rise in renovations then it would not be such a desperate thing. There are still tons and tons of struggling artists out there holding 2 jobs to keep a loft and not selling enough art to be full time and afford the space they need. Someone out there has been reading way too much artnet and not doing enough street research.

Buy more art.... and if you are making art, are atmospheric smells really the problem?]

CJ Metzger and Miss Mindy Reception Thanks and Highlights

The reception on March 24th was a Delight...lots of fun things were going on.

Fred Eric of Fred 62 provided delicious vittles. People gobbled them up -- obviously folks are really bored with the cheese and crackers dealio I usually provide. It was super nice of Fred to make hot sandwiches and everything else, way beyond any one's expectations.
I eat at Fred 62 about once a month -- a great late night place after art openings.
He also opened Tiara, which I have yet to try, but these comments are convincing me to high tail to the Fashion District real soon.
(Even just to drink the water!! You heard me. But apparently I better get ready for some serious people watching as well as spend at least 1.2 hours deciding what to wear. Regardless, the water, and oh, the pink fondue fountain I gotta see.)

Thanks to Jack of Vinyl Pulse for coming to the show, snapping pics and posting a blurb on the show!!
And to Flavorpill and LA City Beat for posting one of our shows again.

Thanks to Penny Star Jr and her beautiful vixen tree fairy friend adorned as Living Dolls.

Here are some beautiful pics for your voyeuristic enjoyment....

Do stop by -- this show ends May 5th.

new show Feb 3 - March 17

Gallery Revisited is pleased to announce our first show of the new year.

Reception Saturday February 3, 2007. 6pm – 10pm
Collector and Media Preview Days Thursday Feb. 1 & Friday Feb. 2, 12pm – 6pm
Show ends March 17th, 2007.
Collector and Media preview days are Thu. Feb. 1st and Fri. Feb. 2nd.

Elana Kundell and Jessica Robbins will be showing all new work - paintings.

Press Release:

Jessica Robbins “Covering Up the Divide”
Elana Kundell “Dissolution”

Both artists work in methodical ways using multiple layering, but with differing execution and concept. Robbins works with pattern layering using chosen shapes with a level of fluidity from piece to piece that becomes the method. Kundell works from a visceral place, layering in a free-form manner, but methodical nonetheless – the meanings becoming the method.

Jessica Robbins works patterns upon patterns within multiple layers of enamel, acrylic, varnish and fine line painting on panel. Concise yet full abstract plains bring to mind exotic textures and fabrics within a conceptual context. This new body of work entitled, “Close the Divide” begins with a main element that is accompanied by companion shapes tightly cohabitating to create a codependence and cohesive single unit over the entire surface. The body of work is created in succession, with each piece flowing into the other yet standing alone via the complex process of repetition and editing. Her work is a strong indicator of new directions in abstract paintings.

Jessica Robbins received her BFA in painting from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1999. Since then she has been exhibiting in Los Angeles and nationwide group shows as well as a 2-person show with Gallery Revisited in 2004 and a 3-person show in 2005. She studied textile design at FIDM 2004/05 to enhance her process through exposure to alternate teaching ideology. Her work can be found in several private collections as well as an impressive commission history.

Elana Kundell creates imaginary abstracted environments of visceral layers in oil on canvas and panel. The surfaces are developed instinctually, using knives, brush work, even fingers to form dense and sheer, intersecting plains. Intuitively, the work is developed based upon Kundell’s memories, which over time and through other experiences become edited in the mind, translating into a vague and augmented zone between reality and feelings. The new body of work, aptly titled, “Dissolution”, embodies all definitions of the word itself, enabling the viewer to find their own imaginary landscape or feelings. The work is subtle yet stated and displays insight that sets her work apart from other abstract painters of a similar genre.

Elana Kundell received her BA in painting and printmaking from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 2000. During her time at UCSC, she studied in at the University of Bologna and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna, Italy. She has been the recipient of several grants and awards for artist in residence programs. Her work has exhibited extensively in Northern California, taken to Seoul, Korea and more recently she has been showing in Los Angeles. Her work can be found in numerous private collections as well as the University Collection in Bologna, Italy.

Today!! Urban Artists on a Drive

The nice boy, Seizer just sent me this image of his pasted project on the billboard over the gallery building.

And I just got off the phone with the Boston Globe. They are doing a big profile on our new gallery artist, PIXNIT - whose "Spores" are gracing the streets of Boston as we speak, pollinating the crevices of the ancient American city. (if you can call 1700's ancient)

I'll be sure to notify you when that comes in - some time next week.
PIXNIT SPORE

There is a huge stir in Boston with the graffiti and urban street art movement. It is a very very conservative town...here we take all of that for granted and it becomes an integral part of our (literal) artistic landscape. Almost to the point that if it was not there, it would not be Los Angeles. Both the gang graffiti and the art graffiti.
Plus, our police force is way too busy fighting real crime to care about late night "beautification" projects. At least the art kind - we do have a good white-wash program for tagging, at least in Silver Lake. Well, gotta keep Normandie down. They are 2 blocks away from me...and my wall is a big tag canvas all the time.
(That's why it is so Reasonable, dare I say Rational that houses are selling for $650,000 on my block - but anyway, I digress)
More Pixnit in Boston:

Enjoy your drive when you see some art.

No, and not everything is art and not all graffiti is art and not all street art is graffiti.

David Trulli for ArtCrawl

Just a note to point out that David Trulli loaned an image for us to use on the ArtCrawl publicity flyers, posters and ads. Thanks again David!
It's a great way for an artist to get exposure without doing very much work. Especially in this case, where the piece had already been made and is actually sold.

"Orion" Used for ArtCrawl publicity materials.

We do however, have a giclee print of "Speed Graphic" and 2 scratchboards - "Soft-core" and "Vine Theater" in the Back Room Salon.

As for the rest of Art Crawl, in general people are really sending time with the art, asking great questions about individual pieces or about the gallery and a bonus is the gorgeous weather. Lots of new people too and plenty of folks that visit us regularly.
It's going on tomorrow too - from 12 - 6.
And don't forget - LO- FI Live with the RENDERS!!
AT 2pm --- Yes! Inside the Gallery.
Come check everything out!

Felt Club this Sunday - don't fight it.

Many of you know that in addition to owning & running Gallery Revisited, I also am an artist and have a t-shirt line that coincides with my paintings.

This Sunday, September 10 is FELT CLUB and I will be there.

I love the way that sewing has worked its way into the contemporary art world, and in addition, sewing and crafts in general are at a huge explosion - gals and guys everywhere are taking their needles by storm & making cool, cute, funny & useful things just for you.
I studied Fine Craft in school, and it was not considered a "real" art medium at the time (another discussion altogether).
So I am thrilled that this new revival is taking off, not only because of the exposure it is getting as an art medium, but because it's FUN.

I will have Powerpole & Unexpected Friends T-shirts on sale, & New Works on paper, that are washy and sparkly and have Urban Landscapes in Thread. I'm super excited about them!! So come on over, say HI and grab some great stuff for not too much money.
((I will take credit cards too, so you can hold on to your mad money))

That's FELT CLUB - not to be confused with Fight Club.
